For most people An African safari and especially an African beach holiday is a once in a life time experience to remember. Often travelers opt for a beach experience after an African wildlife safari or a cultural safari or even a busy African business trip.
A beach experience helps you unwind. But what most people don’t realize is that an African beach holiday/vacation can do more bad than good to the environment and the locals.
Most people have the understanding that tourism in developing countries actually helps the locals and the country as a whole. This however is not always the case. Especially when you consider the fact that huge businesses are often involved in the lucrative tourism industry.
Travel is big business and in fact a billion dollar industry.
As with anything when profits come before anything else including the environment then it is easy to see how some places that have been created as tourist areas can do more damage to the environment than good.
For starters some African governments have been selling prime beachside locations to foreigners, sometime displacing the communities nearby and other time affecting even their livelihoods by making some beaches exclusive. In some areas of Africa virtually all the infrastructure is foreign owned from the shopping centres to the restaurants, hotels and curio shops.
In some places this has lead to local resentment.
so while on an African beach vacation or safari, doing some of the following can make a big difference in the lives of the locals and the environment.
Whenever possible buy souvenirs from locals- When you do this you are supporting the local community because much of the money you spend on huge establishments hardly trickle to the locals.
Game fishing isn’t exactly a game - The effect of picking off the ocean’s largest and finest creatures could kick off devastating chain reactions. This surely isn’t worth it when you consider that it’s for fun and not for food.
Be gentle with coral - Avoid touching coral while scuba diving or snorkeling because coral is a living thing. Also be careful with your flippers because one careless swipe of sand can easily suffocate a patch of coral. Read the rest of this entry »

Any foreigner like myself, when coming to the UK, knows that driving on British roads is nearly impossible without any practice at first, as they have the routs and the cars build the other way around. For us — the “wrong” way. However, not only foreigners make a lot of accidents on UK’s roads, many local people, even though they are used to this driving structure, still make mistakes on the road, some of which result in small accidents, others in tragedies.
Let’s not take the worst scenarios, however, if you are located in the UK you should be aware of the accident compensation claim.
What does it mean?
It means that if you, God forbid, had an accident, you are eligible to receive monetary compensation from the person who hurt you or, in most cases — their insurance. You can go with the “no win, no fee” option, which is best for anyone as you don’t pay unless you win, and in that case even if your compensation is not guaranteed (roughly speaking) — you don’t lose anything by trying to claim it. This city, also known as North Venice, is built on fourteen different islands. However, what makes Stockholm grand is not its position, but its great mixture of the old with the new. This glorious capital is home to a truly amazing museum collection. Skansen is probably one of the most prestigious open air museums that you will ever visit. It displays old, nineteenth century buildings. The oldest ship in the world is also preserved in Stockholm, in the Vasa.

Travel internet sites in Europe have reported a surge of tourists heading for Spain and the Spanish islands for holidays and short breaks for the coming months - and this even extended earlier in the year to Spain’s ski areas.
Many people are surprised to learn that Spain has ski areas, but when looked at on a map the less well known tourist areas, away from the coastal regions, include the Pyrenees, bordering ski country Andorra.
Spain’s most successful ski resorts are in the Pyrenees, and they did well with tourists taking a ski holiday for the 2007/8 season with good snow from December through to April.
Another area of Spain good for ski holidays is the Sierra Nevada area, not far from the Costa del Sol, and despite the usually sunny climate of the Sierra Nevada, it has hosted the World Alpine Ski Championships.
Other popular ski holiday spots in Spain include:
* Baqueira-Beret
* Boi-Taull
* La Molina
* Astun
* Candanchu
* Cerler
* Formigal
* Panticosa
The most recent predictions of a great ski season for later this year and the 2008/9 ski holidays season are based mainly on Spain’s rise in tourism in the 2007 summer months.
Some popular holiday spots in Spain received as many as 560 per cent more tourists as the previous year. The Canary Island of Tenerife (176 per cent rise), Gran Canaria (244 per cent rise) and Lanzarote (120% rise) base most of their economic growth on tourism. Their dedication to holidaymakers has more than paid off.
Other areas of Spain that saw a significant rise in tourism include:
- * Fuerteventura at 560 per cent
* Benidorm at 213 per cent
* The Malaga Province 329 per cent
The Algarve, Madeira, Marrakech and Sharm el Sheikh also report rises in tourism last summer and look forward to a good 2008 summer holidays season.
The Canary Islands are currently hosting the 24th Annual Music Festival of the Canaries. This additional boost in tourism will greatly benefit the tourism activities promoted on the Canary Islands.
A very popular holiday destination for Brits in the summer of 2007 was Menorca and sure to do well for 2008.
Menorca is one of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean, to the southeast of the Spanish mainland.
Menorca is well known as a smaller, much more private holiday spot than neighbouring Majorca. Majorca is much more densely populated than Menorca with many celebrities owning homes there such as Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta Jones and Antonio Banderas. Read the rest of this entry »

Known as the “Lake of Heaven” the Namtso Lake lies in the north Tibetan plateau north of the main peak of the Nyainqentanglha Mountains. The lake. 4,720 meters above sea level and 55 meters deep, covers an area of 1,96 1.5 square kilometers, making it the highest of Tibet’s three largest lakes and the second largest salt lake in China.

Some two million years ago, drastic movement of the earth’s crust caused the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to rise by a huge degree. As a result of the intense pressures exerted in this process, some strata were folded into high mountains whilst others fell, creating valleys or basins. The Namtso Lake was a result, first, of the movement of the earth’s crust. Exacerbated by glacier movement?In the lake’s early days, it had a much wider surface area and a lower elevation than it has today. The climate then was much warmer and more humid t00, and the rippling lake was just like a sea. As the earth’s crust continued to rise.SO too did the lake. Some 10,000 years ago. The plateau turned cold and dry and the lake’s water sources decreased, resulting in the lake shrinking in size. There are three shorelines around the lake, the highest of which is 80 meters higher than today’s lake shore.

The Hawaii State offers a different kind of vacation. The islands are so diverse and between the native Hawaiians and all of the other people that live and vacation there, the people you will meet are different as well. The landscape is incredible and weather is temperate 365 days a year.
The history of Hawaii State
Hawaii entered the modern world as a native kingdom which remained in power throughout most of the 1800’s. This is when the expansion of the sugar industry increased dramatically. The trade agreements that were signed between the U.S and Hawaii meant increasing U.S. business and political involvement. It also paved the way for Hawaii to become a territory and finally a state in 1959.

The weather of Hawaii State
The temperature is temperate and the rain comes and goes, depending on the area. Some parts of Hawaii receive very little rain and others have been documented as the wettest places on Earth, with more than 500 inches of rain fall per year. Flowers and nursery products are the chief export, but Hawaii also grows coffee beans, bananas, and macadamia nuts. The highest peak is Mauna Koa at 13,796 feet, which makes it the largest volcanic mountain in the world.
Things to Do in Hawaii State
People are amazed at what they find to do in Hawaii once they start doing the research and really start looking around the internet. Whale watching is one of the most popular activities, as well as dolphin encounters and snorkeling with the colorful fish that swim in the coral reefs.
There are also a few particular points of interest that are famous in the state of Hawaii, including the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, National Historic Park, Polynesian Cultural Center, and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.
Scuba diving is also very popular in the state of Hawaii, as there are so many beautiful views under the surface of the Pacific Ocean. Hawaii’s Kohala Coast offers some of the best diving in all the Hawaiian Islands, and the water along the coast is clear year round and often exceeds 100-foot visibility. Four European City Breaks not to be Missed

Europe has many wonderful cities with tourist attractions to suit just about every taste. The choice is by no means restricted to capitals or even to the larger cities. Many of the smaller cities offer enough things to see and do to keep a tourist absorbed for days and still wanting to return after their visit is over. To single out any one city and to say that it is better than the others would be to ignore the fact that beauty is in eye of the beholder. All that can be said is that personal experiences make some cities even more special than others. On that basis, I have described four of my personal favourites and have included my best travel tip for each one.
Amsterdam:
Amsterdam is a friendly, welcoming city that tourists usually remember most for its warm hospitality. They are also likely to remember how they spent many joyful hours wandering along the canals, admiring buildings, monuments and canal bridges without worrying too much about what or where to visit next. Amsterdam is that kind of place and needs no set travel itinerary to make it enjoyable. However there are some places that just have to be visited and probably the best travel tip for Amsterdam is not to miss visiting the Anne Frank Museum. This museum has been built inside the house where Anne Frank hid from the Nazis. The Jewish girl’s diaries record the months of confinement she spent in the cramped hiding place on the top floor. Her experiences are brought to life as you tour the house. The tour lasts for about an hour and the museum opens every day at 9.00 a.m.
Budapest
Budapest is a wonderful city in two parts, Buda and Pest, separated from each other by the Danube. There are fabulous places to see on both sides of the river, including the World Heritage site, Buda castle district.
Both parts of the city have many excellent restaurants and bars, serving food and drinks at prices well below those of most other European capitals. Budapest also has a vibrant night life, offering everything from atmospheric jazz bars and pulsating dance clubs to strip bars and sex clubs that cater for organised stag and hen party weekends.
The best travel tip for Budapest is not to miss a boat tour on the Danube. Although, some of the boat operators advertise trips at any of the year, avoid the winter months if you want to be sure of getting a good choice of cruises. Even if a cruise that is actually running can be found on a dull winter’s day, it would not be a very enjoyable experience.
Florence
Florence is many people’s idea of the most beautiful city in the world. There is so much to see in this relatively small city, that it is possible to go back there time after time and still find new things that you “must see”. Just to soak in the atmosphere of the piazzas or to stand at one of the many viewpoints overlooking Florence makes it a city to remember for the rest of one’s life. Practically every travel tip, giving advice about what to see in Florence would be a tip worth heeding if you only had time; but probably the best travel tip for Florence is to relax and to resist packing too much into the visit.
Prague
Prague has inspired many flattering descriptions most of which are justified. It is one of Europe’s most popular city-break tourist destinations and even though some of that popularity can be accounted for by its appeal to those seeking stag or hen night fun, many more flock to Prague to savour its immense treasure store of art, history and culture. Prague’s most visited tourist spot is its castle and that is certainly one attraction not to be missed. Similarly, the old town square is an essential part of every trip to Prague, making it feel as if you have stepped back over five hundred years in time. However the best travel tip for Prague is not to miss the beautiful Charles Bridge that connects the Old Town and Mala Strana. The word “Bohemian” immediately springs to mind as you soak in the atmosphere amongst the artists, actors and musicians who make their living from working their talents on this ancient stone bridge over the Vitava river.
